The SCOPE Process

The Sacramento Citywide Oncology Phase I (SCOPE) Program is a partnership whose mission is to expedite the evaluation and implementation of new cancer therapies. The ultimate vision of the program is to become a truly unique academic-community partnership that collaborates to drive advances in cancer discoveries and treatments, working together for the betterment of all patients in Northern California while respecting institutional boundaries and identities.

The SCOPE partnership is governed by an executive committee that has created a set of bylaws and procedures of engagement that create the operational framework of the program.

• The Executive Committee is comprised of physician representatives from each of the partner institutions, patient advocates and a program manager.

• Physician Representatives act as the voice of their colleagues to advise the committee on program development, participate in regular committee meetings and all communicate all program initiatives to the colleagues.

• Patient Advocates keep the voice of the patients at the heart of program development and all partnership initiatives, participate in regular committee meetings and actively advocate for patients through the partnership.

• The Program Manager oversees daily operations of the partnership, ensures bylaw compliance, participates in outreach and awareness campaigns, liaisons with each partnership site and acts as single point of contact.

• SCOPE membership consists of all oncology departments from every location throughout the greater Sacramento area. SCOPE members receive priority pre-screening and scheduling above those referred by other non-SCOPE partnership sites and direct contact from the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center physician immediately following the initial clinical trial evaluation. SCOPE members are asked to inquire with the Program Manager once per month about prospective clinical trials for their patients.
