Cancer caregivers can be partners, family members or even close friends. As a caregiver, you have a large influence on how the cancer patient deals with their illness and are often the patient’s lifeline.

Caregivers are a crucial part of any cancer care team. The American Cancer Society created a video series to provide educational support to caregivers as they assist with the everyday needs of cancer patients and provide self-care techniques to improve their quality of life. Video topics include physical care, caregiver self-care and advocacy. Click here to view the video series.

Caregivers also need help and emotional support. It is important for caregivers to ask for help when they need it. Many people who were once caregivers say they did too much on their own. Some wished that they had asked for help sooner. The best time to find out where to get help is when the patient is diagnosed with cancer. All through caregiving, it is important to watch for signs of caregiver strain and get help right away. Caregivers who take care of their own needs have the strength to carry on and be a better caregiver. The links below offer resources which you may find beneficial.
